SPIRITUAL & RELIGIOUS VERSES FOR A FUNERAL
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
God to enfold me
God to surround me,
God in my speaking,
God in my thinking.
God in my sleeping,
God in my waking,
God in my watching,
God in my hoping.
God in my life,
God in my lips,
God in my soul,
God in my heart.
God in my sufficing,
God in my slumber,
God in mine ever-living soul,
God in mine eternity.
Effortlessly – Mechthild of Magdeburg
Love flows from God into man,
Like a bird
Who rivers the air
Without moving her wings.
Thus we move in His world
One in body and soul,
Though outwardly separate in form.
As the Source strikes the note,
Humanity sings –
The Holy Spirit is our harpist,
And all strings
Which are touched in Love
Those delicate wanderers,
The wind, the star, the cloud,
Ever before mine eyes,
As to an altar bowed,
Light and dew-laden airs
Offer in sacrifice.
The offerings arise:
Hazes of rainbow light,
Pure crystal, blue, and gold,
Through dreamland take their flight;
And ‘mid the sacrifice
God moveth as of old.
In miracles of fire
He symbols forth His days,
In gleams of crystal light
Reveals what pure pathways
Lead to the soul’s desire,
The silence of the height.
Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in
God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house
are many mansions; If it were not so, I would
have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will
come again and receive you to Myself; that
where I am , there you may be also.
John 14: 1-3
My Dear loved ones,
These words I wish to say.
I’m home up here in Heaven
And here is where I’ll stay.
My pain and struggle is over;
I’ll rest in peace today.
Although I know you’ll grieve for me,
Be strong, it’s going to be O.K.
I’m in my eternal home
Where there’s everlasting light.
I’m in the arms of loved ones,
Holding me so tight.
Please try to carry on your life
With me inside your heart.
Someday you’ll be rewarded
And we’ll never have to part.
I’m glad we had so many years
Together you and I.
You filled my life with happiness
And gave me wings to fly.
Just keep your faith; believe my words,
You’ll see the morning light.
And know that I am with you
Every morning, noon and night.

Take Some Time
Take some time to smell the flowers as you walk the paths of life.
Take some time to ease the tensions from the challenges and strife.
Take some time to haer the birds sing as they usher in the dawn.
Though the day be just emerging, too soon it will be gone.
Take some time to watch a sunrise, now and then a sunset too.
Just be sure that seeking pleasure isn’t all you ever do.
Take some time to count your blessings, though you feel they’re not that great.
You will find they’re more abundant than you thought, at any rate.
Take some time to banish hatred when and where you can.
Just detest man’s evil ways and not your fellow man.
Take some time to love your children every moment you are free.
The benefits far exceed a university degree.
Take some time to love your neighbour and even more important still,
Take some time to love yourself or not many others will.
And if you don’t like that image of yourself that others see,
Take some time to make some changes, be the best that you can be.
Take some time to help another who you think might need a hand.
You will find the satisfaction leaves you feeling sort of grand.
Take some time to live by virtue in the best way that is known,
And respect the rights of others as equal to your own.
Take some time to just appreciate the fact that you are here,
And to know that Higher Power and to trust It without fear.
If you do these things with diligence you will eventually be glad.
If you don’t attempt to do them, you may one day wish you had.
Although this no doubt could impose upon your time for seeking wealth,
There should be little question that it could improve your health.
And though you might not be as wealthy nor drive so fine a car,
You’ll find you will be richer in other ways by far.

One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking
along the beach with the Lord.
Across the sky flashed scenes
from his life,
for each scene,
he noticed two sets of footprints
in the sand, one belonging to him
the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life
flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times
along the path of his life
there were only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened
at the very lowest
and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him
and he questioned the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said that once I decided
to follow you,
you would walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed
that during the most troublesome times
in my life there is only one set of footprints.
I do not understand why when I needed you most
you would leave me?”
The Lord replied
“My precious child, I love you and
I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering
when you see only one set of footprints
it was then that I carried you.
23rd Psalm – King James Version
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul;
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’ sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
God is the station owner,
and I am just one of the sheep.
He musters me down to the lucerne flats,
And feeds me there all week.
When I’m feeling poorly,
And at something less than my peak,
He leads me to the restfulness,
Of a coolabah shaded creek.
He teaches me not to break away,
Not to be a loner;
He teaches me to stick with His mob,
And acknowledge Him as my Owner.
Even when the droughts are bad,
And I cross the Desert of Death,
God is close beside me,
So close I can feel His breath.
God is the one who holds the map,
That gives me my direction,
And God is the one who guarantees,
Provision for my Protection.
Although there are dingos in the hills,
And the paddocks are full of snakes,
God serves up a barbeque,
Of beautiful T-bone steaks!
His patience and compassion,
And forgiveness fail me never;
And I’ll live with Him in the Homestead,
Beyond the end of forever.
by Kel Richards from The Aussie Bible
AND GOD SAID…
I said, ‘God, I hurt.’
And God said,
I said, ‘God, I cry a lot.’
And God said,
‘That is why I gave you tears.’
I said, ‘God, I am so depressed.’
And God said,
‘That is why I gave you sunshine.’
I said, ‘God, life is so hard.’
And God said,
‘That is why I gave you loved ones.’
I said, ‘God, my loved one died.’
And God said,
‘So did mine.’
I said, ‘God, it is such a loss.’
And God said,
‘I saw mine nailed to a cross.’
I said, ‘God, but your loved one lives.’
And God said,
‘So does yours.’
I said, ‘God, where are they now?’
And God said,
‘Mine is on my right and yours is in the Light.’
I said, ‘God it hurts.’
And God said,
The Master walked in His garden
Plucking flowers along the way;
He plucked one of my loved ones,
To add to his bouquet.
My heart at first was broken,
At the loss of one so dear;
But the tears I shed just washed my eyes,
So I saw His way more clear.
My Lord has a need for just this one,
For the pattern He has in mind;
But it’s hard for the rest of us to see
Why we must be left behind.
Perhaps we are not ready to go just yet
We may need to ripen more
To reach the full blown fragrance
My Lord is waiting for.
To each, give forth a fragrance
To each we chance to meet
We should each be trying day by day
To make our fragrance sweet.
So I’m going to try my very best
To be loving and kind each day,
So at last I’ll be counted worthy
To be part of my Master’s Bouquet.
God grant me Serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
and Wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
enjoying one moment at a time,
accepting hardship as the pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it;
trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His will;
that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him forever in the next.
Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying
that we are born to eternal life.
And God shall wipe away all
tears from their eyes; and there
shall be no more death, neither
sorrow, nor crying, neither shall
there be any more pain: for the
former things are passed away
Hold on to what is good
even if it is a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe
even if it is a tree which stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do
even if it is a long way from here.
Hold on to life
even when it is easier letting go.
Hold on to my hand
even when I have gone away from you.
May You Always Feel Loved
May you find serenity and tranquility
in a world you may not always understand.
May the pain you have known
and the conflict you have experienced
give you the strength to walk through life
facing each new situation
with optimism and courage.
Always know that there are those
whose love and understanding
will always be there
even when you feel most alone.
May you discover enough goodness in others
to believe in a world of peace.
May a kind word, a reassuring touch,
a warm smile, be yours every day of your life,
and may you give these gifts as well as receive them.
Remember the sunshine when the storm seems unending.
Teach love to those who know hate,
and let that love embrace you as you go into the world.
May the teaching of those you admire
become part of you,
so that you may call upon them.
Remember, those whose lives you have touched
and who have touched yours are always a part of you,
even if the encounters were less
than you would have wished.
May you not become too concerned
with material matters, but instead place
immeasurable value on the goodness in your heart.
Find time in each day to see the beauty
and love in the world around you.
Realize that each person has limitless abilities,
but each of us is different in our own way.
What you may feel you lack in one regard
may be more than compensated for in another.
What you feel you lack in the present
may become one of your strengths in the future.
May you see your future
as one filled with promise and possibility.
Learn to view everything
as a worthwhile experience.
May you find enough inner strength
to determine your own worth by yourself,
and not be dependent on another’s judgements
of your accomplishments.
May you always feel loved.
by Sandra Sturtz Hauss
Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.
What Is Dying?
A ship sales and I stand watching
till she fades on the horizon,
and someone at my side says,
‘She is gone.’
Gone from my sight, that is all.
She is just as large as when I saw her
The diminished size and total loss of sight
is in me, not in her.
And just at that moment when someone
at my side says,
‘She is gone,’
there are others who are watching her coming,
and other voices take up a glad shout,
‘Here she comes!’
and that is dying
By Bishop Brent
Oh Father, let me listen when someone’s close to tears,
Help me to console them and drive away their fears.
And when you send directions from Heaven up above
Then let me listen Father with my heart and not my ears
Yes let me listen Father, when someone’s close to tears.

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER – by Erma Bombeck
(written after she found out she was dying from cancer).
I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of
pretending the Earth would stop
if I weren’t there for the day.
I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose
before it melted in storage.
I would have talked less and listened more.
I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the
carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.
I would have eaten the popcorn in the ‘good’ living room
and worried much less about the dirt
when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.
I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather
ramble about his youth.
I would have shared more of the responsibility
carried by my husband.
I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a
summer day because my hair had just been styled.
I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.
I would have cried and laughed less while watching television
and more while watching life.
I would never have bought anything just because it was
practical, wouldn’t show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy,
I’d have cherished every moment and realized
that the wonderment growing inside me
was my chance in life to assist God in a miracle.
When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said,
“Later. Now go get washed up for dinner.”
There would have been more “I love you’s, more “I’m sorry’s.”
But mostly, given another shot at life,
I would seize every minute…look at it and really see it,
live it and never give it back.
Stop sweating about the small stuff.
Don’t worry about who doesn’t like you,
who has more, or who’s doing what.
Instead, let’s cherish the relationships we have
with those who do love us.
Let’s think about what we’ve been blessed with.
and what we are doing each day to promote ourselves
mentally, physically, emotionally.
I hope you all have a blessed day.
